Of Wars

This is a poem I wrote way back in 1990 I guess...In Kerala, we used to have inter-collegeate art festivals, and I won the 1st place for this entry in the InterZone (Calicut University) if I remember correctly...

WARS

Gone are the days
When wars were fought
For the hand of the maiden
The chieften sought.

Those that marr our lives today
Are them the scary global wars;
Where the ego of some reckless fools
Brings forth gory blood pools.

Centuries ago, King Babur demolished
A temple. Now they fight,
The fanatic fakirs, to make even
With Babur-the turbaned thief.

Lord Ram -He is quite uneasy of late
'Cause there's strict security at every gate
He once fought to liberate man
And now men fight to liberate Him.

And then we had our Saddam Hussein
Who's pride wanted anything swell
Neck and neck was Father Bush
Whose Patriots gunned all the oil wells.

When the hens of your neighbour
Clamour at your door
You make sure that
He grows hens no more!

It is a maggot of the brain
That causes all this struggle and strain.
Innocent millions pay a heavy price
For the sake of few who can't think twice.

Pull down, dear friends, the fences
That block your hearts;
Let's build bridges of freedom
And pray the World be One

Murali .. , how eloquent and picturesque! Part of my mind in reciting the verses of my poem WARS and other part is sync-ing your apt music to it..Keep it up!
